Oxfam International believes that citizens have a right to hold governments and institutions accountable, to respect their rights and do what they say they will do.
We also believe that non-government organizations should be accountable to the people they serve, to partner organizations, and to the people from whom they receive support: donors, campaigners, governments and foundations. To that end Oxfam publishes its internal governance rules and policies, its compliance with required standards, voluntary codes of conduct and the results of its work through evaluations. The launch of the Charter represents a starting point of an ongoing process to establish and implement a system that not only sets common standards of conduct for INGOs but also creates mechanisms to report, monitor and evaluate compliance as well as provide redress.
