Our Washington advocacy office focuses on the international financial institutions of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The key objective is getting the organizations to provide more and better aid to enable poor countries to reach the internationally-agreed Millennium Development Goals and overcome poverty, and to allowing countries more space to decide their own development priorities.

The office works to persuade the Bank to ensure universal access to essential services (particularly health systems, but also supporting partner organizations on education issues); to fight effectively against climate change; and to ensure that there is better investment in agriculture in developing countries.

We also aim to promote more participatory, transparent and accountable decision-making, from the country level up to the Bank and Fund Boards. Recent work has focused on the role of economic policy conditions attached to the institutions' loans, for example.

In addition, the office also helps coordinate Oxfam's three campaigns: Health and Education For All, Rights in Crisis, and Economic Justice.

Since 2002 our NY office has led Oxfam's advocacy and campaigning work at the United Nations Headquarters. The office concentrates its efforts on humanitarian issues associated with Oxfam’s priority emergency responses according to our Rights in Crisis campaign (Darfur-Chad, DRC and Afghanistan) and the humanitarian issues of greater interest discussed at the UN.

The office also advocates on thematic issues such as the Arms Trade Treaty, the Responsibility to Protect and the Humanitarian Reform agenda.

Our EU advocacy office works to increase Oxfam's influence on European Union policies across a number of areas that are key for development, including aid, humanitarian assistance, protection of civilians, trade, agriculture and climate change.

The Brussels office works on the premise that Oxfam must effectively coordinate its advocacy work with the European institutions and in European capitals to achieve impact on policy and promote change. The staff in our Brussels office ensure that EU officials, European politicians, developing country embassies, and journalists all have the latest Oxfam analysis and policy proposals.

Oxfam's EU advocacy office also works closely with like-minded organizations, seeking to strengthen civil society voices on development and humanitarian issues across the European Union.

Since the launch of Oxfam's Make trade Fair campaign in 2003, the Geneva office has led Oxfam's advocacy and campaigning work on the World Trade Organization (WTO). Our main objective at the WTO is to achieve a pro-development outcome in the Doha Development round of talks. Oxfam work focuses on trade issues key to development such as agriculture, cotton, and access to medicines.

Through its WTO work, the Geneva office has established contacts with key governments, especially developing country missions, with other NGOs working on trade issues, with other key institutions such as UNCTAD, the WHO, the ILO, as well as with the private sector. To keep up with recent development affecting trade, the office is developing expertise on regional trade agreements, especially EPAs, on climate change, and on biofuels.

Oxfam International has established a Campaign Office in Italy in partnership with the Italian NGO Ucodep. This office will provide a base for lobbying and advocacy in the run up to Italy’s Presidency of the G8 in 2009.

Our goal is to ensure the Italian government adopts policies that will help reduce global poverty – including giving more and better aid to help deliver health, education and clean water for all and justice for people living with the impact of climate change.

The office is managed by Ucodep, an Italian NGO that since 1976 has worked in Italy and abroad to build a better world through activities aimed at fighting poverty, supporting health and education rights, promoting the values of diversity and solidarity, and assisting people in humanitarian emergencies.
