This week marks the second birthday of the GROW campaign – a good time to pause and reflect.

GROW is our contribution to the global struggle to fix our broken food system. Our ambition – “a future where every one of us will always have enough to eat” – is big. But it needs to be, because so is the problem, and the solutions needed!

Je viens de passer trois jours dans la capitale de l’Afrique, Addis-Abeba, où se trouve le siège de l’Union africaine. Dans le débordement d’activité en marge du sommet de l’UA, j’ai pu m’aménager un espace où parler à différentes personnes du travail d’Oxfam. Ces trois jours ont été couronnés par un événement intitulé 50 Voices, 50 Places (« 50 voix, 50 horizons ») et organisé par l’équipe Droits en situation de crise d’Oxfam.

Alors que les combats se poursuivent en Syrie, où plus de 80 000 personnes ont déjà trouvé la mort depuis le début du conflit il y a deux ans, l'urgence humanitaire se fait chaque jour plus grave et plus pressante.

Me he pasado tres días en la capital de África, Addis Abea, sede de la Unión Africana. Durante este tiempo, ha habido una intensa actividad al margen de la cumbre de la UA, pero he encontrado algún momento para poder explicar el trabajo de Oxfam a varia gente. Los tres días concluyeron con una actividad a la cual asistí llamada “50 lugares, 50 voces”, organizada por el equipo de Derechos en situación de Crisis de Oxfam.

“So mummy are we beggars now?” is a question Sahra’s daughters asked her. It’s virtually the first thing she tells us when we visit her and other women refugees in Shabreeha, South Lebanon. The women have been in Lebanon between four and ten months. Sahra (35), her husband and three children fled the conflict in Syria with little but the clothes they were wearing. The clothes have had a lot of wear. She says, “My children are ashamed when they go out.”

I recently spent three days in Africa’s capital, Addis Ababa, the seat of the African Union. During this time, there was a flurry of activity in the margins of the AU summit but I found my own space to talk to various people about Oxfam’s work. The three days were concluded by attending an activity called “50 Voices, 50 Places”, organized by Oxfam’s Rights in Crisis team.

Elle a 12 ans mais en paraît 25.

Le 28 mai est la journée mondiale d’action pour la santé des femmes. Pourquoi faut-il une journée pour parler spécifiquement de la santé de la moitié de la population ? Parce que les femmes ont davantage de barrières à l’accès aux soins, une journée d’action est nécessaire pour mobiliser sur une réalité : à l’échelle mondiale, les inégalités de genre pèsent sur l’accès des femmes aux services de santé. Et ces inégalités se superposent à la pauvreté.

Today I met a girl whose face you'll never see because she’s too scared about what will happen when she returns to Syria, “I don’t want my photograph to be taken because I’m afraid that when we go back something might happen to us.” If I quoted her on everything she said you would say I made it up. She's 12 going on 25.
