In 2011, Oxfam continued to deliver emergency water, sanitation, and public health work in Haiti, working with communities and local organizations to find more permanent solutions to meet long-term needs for these services. We also helped small businesses to flourish in the city and the countryside.
For the 89 families crowded into tents on a strip of land in Gressier, an hour’s drive outside of Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince, uncertainty has become the daily constant in their lives.
Eleven months after the quake, Oxfam is still providing water and sanitation to the 40,000 people living in the camp.
Within Dadu town Oxfam and its local partner are providing water, sanitation and hygiene promotion in several camps. Zarina and Janat are two of the people living in a camp where buses used to park. Read their stories.
Oxfam is working in the camps to help provide clean water and latrines for the thousands of people living there.
Through local partners and psychologists, Oxfam is working with young people in Haiti to put together improvised performances which enable them to express their minds about how they are feeling in the aftermath of the devastation.
