In response to the cholera outbreak in central Haiti, Oxfam has mobilized a team of five emergency specialists to set up water, sanitation and hygiene programs for an estimated 100,000 people in a heavily affected zone.
The activities around the Global Hand Washing Day are part of Oxfam’s flood response work in Pakistan on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, where we are reaching over a million people and continue to support communities as they recover from the worst floods in the country’s history.
Irregular rains in 2009 have led to a severe lack of pasture, water and a poor harvest in Niger. Oxfam is distributing food and supplies and buying weak livestock from herders at above market levels.
