A team of Oxfam emergency specialists has been dispatched to Haiti today to bolster the charity’s response to the devastation wrought by the earthquake that struck the country on Tuesday.

A major earthquake has struck Haiti on Tuesday 12 January, causing catastrophic destruction. Oxfam has an emergency team based in the capital responding with public health, water and sanitation services.

A devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra on 30 September, killing at least 1,000 people and affecting thousands more.

On Wednesday 30 September a huge 8.3 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami that hit the Southern coasts of Samoa and American Samoa causing widespread destruction. Oxfam is working alongside our Samoan partners to assist with the urgent needs of people affected by the disaster.

International aid agency Oxfam today began tankering clean water into Padang, as part of the relief effort for the many people affected by last Wednesday’s 7.6 magnitude earthquake. Providing clean water is an immediate priority.
