Oxfam and Islamic Relief today raised the alarm about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen as new surveys revealed that people are going without food for three days and that one in five children is acutely malnourished in some parts of the country.
Families in parts of Yemen are in dire need of assistance as crippling food prices and fuel shortages drive them to breaking point, according to a new report released today by Oxfam. Already, one-third of Yemenis – 7.5 million people – are going hungry.
International aid agency Oxfam today warned that the conflict-driven emergency in Yemen could soon ignite into a full-blown humanitarian crisis unless immediate action is taken to stop the fighting between government forces and Houthi rebels in the north of the country.
