A million refugees urgently need shelter, food and water
One year since the Haiti earthquake – in pictures
On January 12, 2010 a massive earthquake struck a densely populated area in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti. Our humanitarian response is among the largest that Oxfam has ever done, with the amount of destruction and logistical challenges being among the worst we have ever faced.
Oxfam is providing support to 1.2 million people in Haiti through our earthquake response and cholera prevention programs. Here's a snapshot of 2010, in pictures. Click on the thumbnails below for more.

World leaders pledged massive assistance to rebuild Haiti after the earthquake killed as many as 200,000 people, but five days into the crisis aid distribution was still random, chaotic and minimal. Yolette Etienne has been Oxfam Country Director for 10 years and is a Haitian national. She lost her mother in the quake, which also claimed the lives of two Oxfam staff. Many of her staff have lost their homes and family members, but despite this she says they have no choice, no other option but to work and work harder for the people of Haiti.
