Angelique Kidjo has supported Oxfam as a Campaigner across all of our campaigns from humanitarian and emergency work, to the International Arms Trade Treaty as called for by the Control Arms campaign, to the US Farm Bill and Make Trade Fair.
Benin-born Angelique Kidjo is one of the biggest world music stars of the last 20 years, and a strong supporter of Oxfam. Angelique has supported Oxfam as a Campaigner across all of our campaigns from humanitarian and emergency work, to the International Arms Trade Treaty as called for by the Control Arms campaign, to the US Farm Bill and Make Trade Fair.
A passionate and hugely committed advocate for the poor Angelique has taken part in photo shoots, lobbied at the World Trade Organization and performed at concerts in New York and Berlin for Oxfam.
She is one of the most inspiring people that we work with and she is greatly loved by Oxfam staff who find her positive energy a huge motivation as well as all the work that she does for us in the public eye.
Angelique explains the reasoning behind her campaigning work with Oxfam: "Unfair world trade rules are having a devastating impact on millions of people's lives. Trade restrictions in rich countries cost the developing countries around $100 billion a year- twice as much as they receive in aid.
This simply can't go on." We were proud to see Angelique's critically acclaimed album, Djin Djin, win the 2008 Grammy for Best Contemporary World Music Album. "
We congratulate Angelique on her well deserved Grammy Award, we are so happy to see her receiving the kind of recognition she so richly deserve," said Oxfam America president Raymond C. Offenheiser. "We at Oxfam are honored to call her our friend."
