Gael Garcia joined the Make Trade Campaign in March 2005 when he was dumped with cotton.

Since then he has been one of the more committed ambassadors of the MTF Campaign focusing on the situation of the small peasant farmers in Latin America. In December 2005 he visited small maize peasant farmers in Chiapas to gain first hand knowledge of their plight.

Immediately, afterward he flew to Hong Kong to participate in the activities being carried out around the WTC Summit where he delivered 18 million signatures asking Pascal Lamy for Fair Trade Rules which would contribute to helping alleviate poverty for millions of people.

He has also been very proactive in different lobbying actions around the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and North America, which jeopardizes the food security of thousands of Mexicans.

Most recently, Gael supported the launch of the Oxfam's ”˜Signing Away Our Rights' Report which warns of the dangers of the spread of free trade agreements.
