International aid agency Oxfam is extremely concerned that the recent intensification of fighting in Mali, which includes the intervention of French military, could worsen restrictions on humanitarian access and lead to a significant increase the humanitarian needs of populations across the country and in neighboring states.

By coming together and discussing the issues of conflict and violence their communities are facing, local peace councils in Afghanistan find ways to mitigate and mediate them. When addressed at a grassroots level, solving these local conflicts can help bring wider peace to the whole of Afghanistan.

More than two million refugees have fled the conflict in Syria into neighboring countries and are now in desperate need of shelter, food, water and medical care. We have now reached 900,000 people with emergency relief.
