International aid agency Oxfam is extremely concerned that the recent intensification of fighting in Mali, which includes the intervention of French military, could worsen restrictions on humanitarian access and lead to a significant increase the humanitarian needs of populations across the country and in neighboring states.

As the humanitarian crisis in eastern Congo grows, with thousands of people fleeing new fighting in the past 48 hours, Oxfam is stepping up the supply of life-saving aid to more than 80,000 people in and around Goma.

Thousands of people are now seeking refuge in Kibati, Nyiragongo territory, on the outskirts of Goma, eastern DRC. Oxfam will be supplying water and sanitation to the community. The recent influx of internally displaced people here is the direct consequence of the conflict that continues to devastate the country.

But thanks to a partnership between Oxfam and the national Somali organization HIJRA, Medina and thousands of other displaced Somalis have received a brand new jerry can.
