Southern Africa is the epicentre of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and NGOs in the region are having to work in a climate where more and more time and resources are going towards ensuring staff remain health, safe, motivated and productive. Issues of staff management and welfare have become more important than ever before. The reality is that the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in NGOs is even greater that it is on the commercial private sector in the region, largely because NGOs have a much smaller resource base.
