Since 2006 United Nations diplomats have been discussing the need for an Arms Trade Treaty. Meanwhile 2.1 million people - 2,000 per day - have died as a result of armed violence. The UN needs to start negotiations on a strong and effective Arms Trade Treaty immediately and finish discussions by 2012 at the latest.
