Oxfam and UNISON: International Health Partnership could save millions of lives – if countries give it their full backing
The International Health Partnership (IHP), unveiled at Downing Street this afternoon, has the potential to save millions of lives, said Oxfam and UNISON. The IHP, championed by UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, is a pact between donor and recipient countries which could help developing countries to build functioning health services. The program intends to provide long term and predictable financing which can be used to fund the salaries of desperately needed doctors and nurses. It is designed to coordinate health financing and address the problem of disparate projects.
