Statement Regarding False Claims of Oxfam Hong Kong Fundraising Activities in Mainland China

Oxfam International has been advised by affiliate Oxfam Hong Kong on recently received information about the unauthorized use of Oxfam’s name for fundraising in Mainland China. Apparently, multiple-level marketing techniques have been employed, with networks being used to generate unlawful profits.
Oxfam Hong Kong states: "We hereby clarify that Oxfam Hong Kong has never initiated any fundraising activities nor authorized any individuals or organizations to raise funds in Mainland China. Any public fundraising appeal in the name of Oxfam Hong Kong in Mainland China is therefore untrue. We have reported this incident to police authorities in Mainland, and we would like to call on the public to please be vigilant about possible fraudulent fundraising. Anyone who has encountered such activities should report it to the police immediately."
