Vatican Seminar on the Global Common Good: Leaders Debate How to Build a More Inclusive Economy

Published: 12th July 2014

Oxfam International’s Executive Director Winnie Byanyima is attending “Global Common Good” seminar today convened by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace in Vatican City. She will be available for comment and interview at the conclusion of the event.

The seminar brings together leading economists, the finance community including central bankers and Nobel Prize winners, the Church, and heads of international and intergovernmental organizations.

Winnie Byanyima said:

“The injustice of inequality is threatening to undermine the efforts of millions of people to escape poverty and hunger. Poverty and extreme economic inequality are historic challenges, and neither is likely to be overcome in isolation. All people should have a chance to hope and dream. This is the difference between living and surviving.”
