Oxfam response to the FAO’s State of Food and Agriculture report, which focuses on the need to address the gender gap
Oxfam’s senior gender advisor Ines Smyth said:
“The FAO’s report on women and agriculture provides valuable hard data and analysis on the critical role women play in agriculture, in the face of inequality and discrimination.”
“Women make up the majority of farmers in many places around the world but are rarely given equal means or access to land so that they can maximize the amount they grow.
“As the world faces growing concerns about food availability and price volatility, it is crucial that women are no longer the silent partners in feeding the world, but welcomed and supported so that they become part of the solution.”
