Education in Egypt: out of the darkness A child could lose its life when it gets the wrong medicines, or medicines that are past their use-by-date, or an overdose. Such tragedies can happen simply because the child’s mother cannot read or write. Oxfam partner, the Better Life Association for Comprehensive Development educates women, and the whole family benefits.

Lebanon: Still part of life At 14, Mustafa was the local boxing champion. He wanted to train to be a teacher, but 30 years ago a degenerative disease of the nervous system forced him to give up. He tried his hand at creative writing, and taught Arabic when the war started in Lebanon. “I’m one of those people who has ambitions. I like to do everything, to prove that I’m still part of life.” While his hands still functioned, he ran a grocery stall. Then his disease worsened and he could only sell school stationery.
