More than 2.5 million women, men and children have fled armed violence in the Darfur region of Southern Sudan. They have gathered in camps and can not safely return to their towns and villages. Oxfam and local Sudanese partners are providing support, including water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, to nearly 250,000 people.
We have built and distributed more than 9,000 fuel efficient stoves, and with enough funding we will assemble 15,000 more in 2011. The stoves protect not only trees, but also the women and girls who must collect firewood.
