EU leaders debate tax issues

EU Heads of States and Government are expected to discuss a series of economic matters, including their commitments to fight tax evasion and tax avoidance. In May, EU leaders agreed to reform the EU’s Anti-Money Laundering Directive by the end of this year, called for a multilateral system of automatic exchange of tax information (including poor countries) and welcomed the possibility to have greater transparency on companies' activities in all sectors. This time round, leaders will examine the progress made over the last six months on these matters and might adopt new commitments to keep the fight against tax dodging high on the EU political agenda.
