Reporting to the Humanitarian Action Program Manager in Addis Ababa in terms of hierarchy, and to the Watsan and Hygiene Manager in Barcelona (Spain) at headquarters functionally, the selected person would be in charge of contributing to the analysis of the humanitarian needs of the country and to coordinate the Water, Sanitation and Health and Hygiene Promotion activities for the Humanitarian Department in Ethiopia.

Responsibilities

  • Revision of IO Water & Sanitation and Health & Hygiene Promotion strategies in the country.
  • Performance of exploratory missions and formulation of proposals on the wash sector in humanitarian crises.
  • Strengthening technical capacities in the country (of a new team or identified counterparts).
  • Participating on the analysis, revision and writing of the Contingency Plan (including Cholera Preparedness Plan).
  • Providing technical support to the Risk Management activities on the wash sector.
  • Preparing, planning and giving technical support to the current Water, Sanitation and Health and Hygiene Promotion activities IO Humanitarian responses.
  • Writing necessary reports on the development on these activities.
  • Assuring the quality of purchased equipment and the implementation of the Watsan and PHP Projects.
  • Assuring coordination with the Logistics and the Finance Managers of the country, respecting their controls and procedures.
  • Supporting the logistics department in developing a database of local suppliers and contractors related to PHE and PHP activities.
  • Representing IO and co-ordinating the Water, Sanitation and Health and Hygiene Promotion activities with the other agencies present and local and national authorities.

Skills and Competencies

  • University degree or equivalent engineering qualification; a specific qualification in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) or Environmental Health would be an advantage.
  • A minimum experience of 2 years in WaSH humanitarian programs. Experience in a fully integrated program  WaSH / Food Security will be valued
  • Knowledge and experience of water engineering (water collection and supply systems as well as analysis and treatment) and sanitation systems in humanitarian contexts.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding health and hygiene promotion and community participation approach in humanitarian contexts.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Computers: standard knowledge level and a very good knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a team in an intense environment.

Terms and Conditions

Contract of employment: Contract of 1 year.

Salary: According to the Intermón Oxfam's country salary scale.
