European Parliament vote in plenary on the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID)

Ahead of negotiations with EU member states on the final text, the European Parliament is set to vote on the revised MiFID legislation that was adopted by the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee in September. Although the revised text succeeds in putting more limits on financial speculation, it falls short of what is needed to fully regulate agricultural commodity derivatives that fuel global food price volatility.
