A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
During 2015, the hottest year in Cuba since 1951, the country experienced the most severe drought it had seen in 115 years. Oxfam brought together Oneida and other Cuban women who are being to forced to adapt to climate change.
Stories like these rural women's form an integral part of the unseen Cuba of today. As in other countries in the region, multiple threats, antiquated cultural constraints and risks resulting from climate change have a different impact on their lives than they do on those of men or of women living in the cities.
