Your donation to our emergency fund will help us respond to urgent need and to rebuild infrastructure and livelihoods.

Our immediate concern is damage to sanitation and water infrastructure. Many people didnt evacuate their homes, so there is still a risk from the rains and flooding. There is an increased risk of cholera due to waste in the flooded streets.

Latin America and the Caribbean are heavily affected by multiple recurrent hazards that are aggravated by climate change. People in these regions are even more vulnerable due to poverty and inequality.

Oxfam has worked in the Caribbean region for over 30 years and has experience in providing safe water, food and shelter, and carrying out sanitation and hygiene work for those people most vulnerable after an emergency strikes.

We responded to last year´s Hurricane Matthew in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Cuba, providing life-saving aid to tens of thousands of people.
