A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
Journalists are invited to attend a press conference following a closed-door meeting of MEPs with the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food on June 19th, in advance of key votes to determine the future of EU biofuels policy, in order to assess the risks to food security presented by biofuels.
