A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
Edliza Duarte is a member of the Guarani-kaiowá community who are fighting the occupation of their land by sugar plantations, in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. She worries about how the loss of their land will affect her family and fears for the health and future of her two children.
