A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.

Climate change is already hitting poor people the hardest, despite them emitting the least amount of carbon and therefore being the least responsible. Oxfam is calling for a fair and adequate deal which cuts emissions in line with what the science demands and provides the funding poor countries need to adapt to a changing climate. Oxfam estimates that $ 50 billion a year is needed.
