A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
We travelled to Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, and made a film about how some Syrian refugees are using music to cope with life in the camps.
The SMRTEs (Syrian's Must Release Their Energy) are a men's music group in Zaatari helped by the VOICE project supported by Oxfam partner AARD. Since the crisis in Syria began 93 000 people have been killed, more than 8 million Syrian's are in need of assistance and 1.6 million refugee's have fled to neighboring countries.
