On Saturday April 16, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador killing hundreds of people, leaving thousands wounded and causing severe damage to infrastructure. We travelled to Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, and made a film about how some Syrian refugees are using music to cope with life in the camps.
The SMRTEs (Syrian's Must Release Their Energy) are a men's music group in Zaatari helped by the VOICE project supported by Oxfam partner AARD. Since the crisis in Syria began 93 000 people have been killed, more than 8 million Syrian's are in need of assistance and 1.6 million refugee's have fled to neighboring countries.
