At any given time, we are responding to over 30 emergency situations. We provide life-saving essentials in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster and to people affected by conflict, as well as long-term development support. You can help.
2013 was not just another year for Oxfam and our supporters.
From the historic moment in April, when the UN General Assembly approved the landmark global Arms Trade Treaty after more than 10 years of civil society action, to the announcement by Mars, Mondelez and Nestlé that they will look, listen and act to make sure women cocoa farmers in their supply chains are respected following the launch of Oxfam's Behind the Brands campaign, to the return of land titles in October by the Government of Guatemala to families evicted from the Polochic valley in 2011 – 2013 has been a year of success for collective action!
There were some disappointments. Despite a huge global mobilization, calling for Syria peace talks, no political solution was found and peace talks were delayed time and again. Talks are now due to take place in January 2014. In November 2013, Oxfam and other NGOs decided to walk out of the UN Climate Conference (COP19) in Warsaw, to protest against the failure of governments to act on climate change.
It was also a year marked by natural disaster and continued humanitarian crisis. We contined to respond in Mali, DRC and South Sudan, stepped up our response in Syria and delivered emergency relief to survivors of the Haiyan super typhoon in the Philippines, landslides in India, and a storm in Somalia...
Our work is only possible thanks to the commitment and generosity of our supporters. We have even greater ambitions for 2014. Join us this year!
