Gaza is entering its 10th year of blockade. It has crippled its economic growth and the freedom of 1.8 million Palestinians living in the Strip. Oxfam is concerned that a return to violence will only make a dire situation worse. Gaza has not recovered from the last war, as 75,000 people remain displaced, only 8.5 per cent of homes destroyed in the last war have been completely rebuilt and 80 per cent of the population rely on international humanitarian aid to survive.
The blockade only keeps people poor and denies them their rights. Oxfam calls on all parties to the conflict to not allow another escalation in violence, to agree to a lasting ceasefire and an urgent end to the blockade.
