The Female Food Heroes are not only national farming celebrities. They also bring their message abroad to international politicians and policy makers. They speak from their own experience as farmers to convince politicians and policy makers to invest in small-scale farmers in developing countries.
This is the best change we have to fully eradicate hunger. If small-scale farming in developing countries is neglected, then more people will go hungry. The decisions made in European and American capitals strongly influence the future of Africa. In turn, these women influence international politics.
In 2015, 2016 and 2017, six Female Food Heroes travelled from Tanzania, Nigeria and Ethiopia to meet with the governments of the US, Italy and Netherlands and with members of the European Parliament, EU policy staff, and participants to the G7 meeting on food and agriculture.
