Bali Communiqué; Post-2015 Development Agenda

Published: 27th March 2013
  • Oxfam welcomes the call for regulation of tax havens and illicit financial flows.

Oxfam spokesperson Stephen Hale said: “The Panel's unanimous call for the regulation of tax havens and illicit financial flows shows that the unfair rules of the game are changing. It's a wake-up call for the G8, G20 and others to act boldly to against the tax dodging that bleeds poor countries dry. Poor countries lose at least $900 billion every year in illicit financial flows, when it could be spent on reducing poverty. The international community can no longer stand by as tax havens take billions from the pockets of ordinary people.'

  • Oxfam is deeply concerned that the Panel failed to pick up on the critical importance of tackling inequality.

Oxfam spokesperson Stephen Hale said: “The Panel's Communique papers over the deep inequalities that prevent us from overcoming poverty in all its forms. Inequality is economically inefficient, politically corrosive, socially divisive, and environmentally destructive. Reducing inequality must be an absolute priority for a post-2015 global development agenda. This was a major gap in the current Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and we’re paying the price for that omission.”
