A desperate and largely unknown humanitarian crisis is deteriorating in the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, forcing millions of people to flee their homes and leaving millions more in need of humanitarian assistance. Oxfam is providing life-saving support but help is urgently needed to prevent the crisis turning into a catastrophe.
Oxfam reaction to GAVI Alliance replenishment announcement for vaccine funding
Mohga Kamal-Yanni, Oxfam senior policy adviser, said: “Oxfam is delighted that GAVI has raised more than $4bn to vaccinate children against killer diseases.
“Now that donors have given GAVI the funds it needs, it has a responsibility to help the most children possible. That means taking further action to push down the prices it pays to pharmaceutical companies and ending the conflict of interest that results from some of those companies having seats on GAVI’s board.”
