Reaction to United States' fossil fuel showcase at COP 23

Published: 13th November 2017

Reacting to the event organized by the United States' delegation at COP 23 to showcase different fossil fuels, Heather Coleman, Oxfam America's climate and energy director said:

“By highlighting Peabody Energy, a bankrupt coal company both financially and morally, the Trump administration is sending a clear signal to the world that it stands against innovation, job growth, and economic growth.

“The world’s poor can’t afford to have the U.S. go AWOL on climate change. Coming to Bonn to shill for the coal industry only adds insult to injury – an injury that grows more dire by the day.

“There are 1.1 billion people worldwide without access to energy. All the Trump Administration has to offer them is coal, a false solution that will only make them poorer and sicker.”
