The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) co-founder Kailash Satyarthi and girls' education champion Malala Yousafzai have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

The GCE was founded by Kailash in 1999 along with teachers' union leaders and Oxfam and ActionAid.

"Oxfam offers its heartfelt congratulations to Malala and Kailash for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Their fearless and tireless campaigning for education is legendary. Education is the most powerful weapon to fight growing inequality. Oxfam is a proud founder member of the Global Campaign for Education. The fight to get every child into school over the last decade has seen many millions of girls and boys get to go to school for the first time, a huge achievement. But many millions more are still out of school, from Syria to South Sudan. In recent years donor countries have made shameful cuts in their support to education.  The world must redouble its efforts to ensure every child gets to finish school," said Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of Oxfam International.
