Oxfam responds to 7.8 earthquake in Ecuador

Publié: 17th avril 2016

Oxfam has deployed a three-person expert assessment team from the region to determine how it will respond to the major earthquake that struck on the evening of 16 April. They will be liaising with Oxfam staff and partners in Ecuador to coordinate the most appropriate response. Official reports say there are at least 230 people dead and that there has been severe damages to the northwest región of the country.

“Our priority now is to get an expert assessment of the earthquake´s impact in order to offer aid in the most appropriate and effective way to those people who are affected the most. We will coordinate with local authorities so that our actions are complementary to government agencies”, said Simon Ticehurst, Oxfam´s director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Oxfam is already receiving donations for its humanitarian response. Please visit this website to donate.
