
Heba Shalan, 40, is the mother of five children and a nurse. She lives in Jabalia refugee camp, northern Gaza Strip. Gaza’s desperately underfunded healthcare organisations are struggling to cope with the rapidly increasing demand as a result of COVID-19 and many can’t afford to provide their staff with adequate personal protective equipment. Since the outbreak in Gaza, Heba has been living with a constant worry that she will pass the virus onto her family or the community where she lives.
Oxfam’s new report, ‘The Inequality Virus’, reveals that the wealth of the ten richest men has increased by half a trillion dollars since the pandemic began - more than enough to pay for a vaccine for all and prevent anyone on Earth from falling into poverty because of the virus.
