Oxfam's reaction to London Conference on Afghanistan

Published: 4th December 2014

Shaheen Chughtai, Oxfam's Deputy Head of Humanitarian Policy, Oxfam said

"After cuts in international aid and the withdrawal of combat troops, the people of Afghanistan need to see evidence that the international community is serious about building peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.

"There were positive signals about the importance of women's rights and Afghan civil society, but fine words will be meaningless without effective action. What is need is sustained and substantial support for Afghanistan's development and security, greater efforts to address the threats facing Afghan women, and a meaningful role for women in talks about Afghanistan's future."
