Commenting on the Powering Past Coal Alliance co-launched by the United Kingdom at COP 23 in Bonn, Tracy Carty, senior policy advisor at Oxfam GB said:
"The UK pioneered coal powered electricity 150 years ago, and today it is leading a global charge to end its use. The 20-plus governments that today committed to be part of the alliance to phase out coal represents real and tangible progress in the fight against climate change.
"Coal is the biggest cause of climate change and it's the poorest people who are suffering most from its effects. The progress we have made in reducing poverty will be reversed if we don't end the use of this climate-wrecking fuel."
