Oxfam’s Global Humanitarian Policy Lead Bushra Khalidi - a Palestinian mother from Jerusalem living in the West Bank - addressed the UN Security Council in New York today, warning that the ceasefire in Gaza is failing and urging member states to uphold their obligations under Resolution 2803.

In reaction to the closing of the G7 Summit today, Oxfam International Head of Inequality Policy Max Lawson, said: "Once again, the G7 has put its own interests ahead of the people paying the price for crises that these same powers have too often caused, fueled or failed to prevent. This summit was defined as much by what was left off the agenda as by what was discussed. Climate change, gender inequality and human rights were conspicuously sidelined to secure President Trump’s attendance. Silence became a strategy."

Only one in five health facilities have access to enough clean water, in Ituri, one of the epicenteres of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to new Oxfam field data. As Elon Musk’s personal fortune is expected to surpass $1 trillion with tomorrow’s SpaceX IPO, making him the world’s first trillionaire, a new Oxfam analysis reveals Musk would be richer than the poorest 46% of the world population, or 3.8 billion people, combined. Hitting $1 trillion would mean Musk’s wealth grew by over $550 billion over the past year, equivalent to an average rate of over $1 million per minute. According to Oxfam, such extreme concentrated wealth is symptomatic of decades of pro-billionaire politics that have allowed the ultra-rich to write economic rules in their favor.

More Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military and settlers across the occupied West Bank in the last three years than in the previous 17 years combined, analysis from Oxfam has found. The number of children killed over the last three years was also higher.
