We are witnessing the collapse of a moral contract. While some regions have seen some modest gains, the world is veering dangerously off track, leaving the poorest and more vulnerable behind.  

Oxfam is deeply concerned by the outcomes of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis. At a time when urgent global crises demand bold and united action, the summit fell short of delivering the leadership the world needs. 

In response to the outcome of the 2025 UN Bonn climate meetings, Oxfam Climate Policy Lead Nafkote Dabi said: “The Bonn climate talks once again exposed the deep divide over who should bear the cost of climate harms, adaptation, and the shift to fossil fuel alternatives in the Global South. Rich countries’ refusal to accept responsibility alongside their go-slow tactics are wearing thin and ultimately benefit no-one.

The 4th International Financing for Development Conference (FfD4)2 must address the extreme inequality crisis that threatens people and the planet. The richest one percent has the same wealth as 95% of humanity3 while global decision-making processes keep reproducing colonial patterns of power relations that leave billions behind and block progressive multilateral reform. Inequality occurs on two fronts, national and global. The gap between the richest and the rest at the national level is very high or rising in most countries. Simultaneously the gap between the richest countries and the Global South rose sharply due to COVID-19 and the subsequent economic and debt crises, remaining unacceptably high.

The combined wealth of EU billionaires increased by more than 400 billion euros in just six months this year – the equivalent of over two billion euros a day.
