Oxfam calls for the Saudi-led Coalition to be put back on the UN’s list of parties responsible for grave violations against children in Yemen. 

In reaction to the recent strikes on Jawf governorate, northern Yemen, which killed 31 and injured 12 civilians on 15 February, Oxfam and ten international aid organizations expressed their shock and deep condemnation of these military escalations.  

Ongoing airstrikes, ground fighting and fuel shortages mean that an additional 3 million Yemenis are now without drinking water – raising the total number of Yemenis without a clean water supply and sanitation to at least 16 million – almost two-thirds of the population.

In the 11 weeks following the agreements, 231 civilians were killed across the country in airstrikes, shelling, by sniper or landmines.

Destruction of the key bridge from Yemen's main port to the capital Sanaa is hampering delivery of food, fuel and other essentials. 

Reacting to the reports that the Saudi-led coalition has allowed four ships to dock at the blockaded port of Hudaydah Oxfam’s Yemen Country Director Muhsin Siddiquey said: “The move hopefully sets a precedent allowing full access of essential food and fuel imports and humanitarian aid to a country on the brink of famine. The blockade has been a critical factor in creating the world’s largest humanitarian crisis and must be fully lifted to prevent further suffering.    

While all parties fighting refuse to compromise, Yemen's civilians are paying the price. As the Hudaydah offensive moves closer to the sea port and city, world leaders have a choice to put their full backing behind peace to bring an end to this crisis, or oversee a potential humanitarian catastrophe.

After two months of no contact, CARE International, Oxfam and Save the Children are repeating their calls for immediate access to staff detained by authorities in northern Yemen and for their immediate and unconditional release.
