At a moment of growing pressure on multilateralism and the United Nations (UN), the new UN Secretary-General (UN SG) selection is pivotal. The UN remains one of the few important forums where all Member States can address shared challenges, forge common solutions, and uphold international norms, its legitimacy and convening power are vital for advancing peace, reduce humanitarian needs, sustainable development, cooperation, and human rights.
The new UN Secretary General’s office is also crucial for protecting public space, dissent and civic freedoms enshrined in the UN Charter, International Law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore, #HandsOffOurSpaces campaign is campaigning for principled, feminist and committed UNSG.
Our Campaign
Call on the new UNSG candidates for reversing trends of conflict, inequality, exclusion, and concentrated power; upholding international law; and restoring confidence in international cooperation and solidarity.

In association with 1 for 8 Billion, a global movement campaigning for a fair, open and inclusive process, Oxfam International analyzed the policy platforms of the aspiring UNSG candidates. These candidates briefs are meant to inform partner, allies and civil society member based on decolonial feminist values.
