The 1,000 richest people on the planet recouped their COVID-19 losses within just nine months, but it could take more than a decade for the world’s poorest to recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic, reveals a new Oxfam report today. Nearly 70 poor countries will only be able to vaccinate one in ten people against COVID-19 next year unless urgent action is taken by governments and the pharmaceutical industry to make sure enough doses are produced.

The next two weeks promise a whirlwind of discussion – and hopefully, commitment to action – on gender equality. World leaders, experts, and women from across civil society are gathering now: this is the Commission for the Status of Women, holding its sixty-sixth annual meeting (CSW66).
