    A dangerous 'game': the pushback of migrants, including refugees, at Europe’s borders

    People who are trying to access the EU are being routinely abused by law enforcement officials in countries in the Western Balkans. Governments in the region must immediately end these violations and ensure safety and dignity for people on the move in their territories.

  • All migrants living in Belgrade have unsuccessfully attempted to cross the border into Hungary or Croatia. Many have suffered physical abuse from the police while trying.

    The shutdown of the Western Balkans route to Europe has left thousands of migrants and refugees stuck in limbo and facing an uncertain future. Rather than being places of safety, Balkans countries have failed to offer them protection and dignity, instead subjecting them to violence and intimidation.
