Good news but governments and UN should not take the foot off the gas

International aid agency Oxfam welcomes the European Commission’s new aid package of 24 million euros for Niger and other countries in the Sahel region of West Africa, which was announced today in Brussels.

Oxfam in Ethiopia’s Country Director Gezahegn Gebrehana said: “Oxfam welcomes today’s announcement from South Africa that the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF have agreed to a cessation of hostilities during African Union mediated peace talks. 

Responding to the publication today of the IPCC’s Synthesis Report (SYR), Oxfam’s Climate Policy Lead Nafkote Dabi said: “This is, literally, the last chapter. The science shows that limiting global heating to 1.5°C is still possible —but only just. Migrants, refugees and activists continue to pay the price with their lives as EU and Arab leaders have failed to deliver concrete action to help people on the move and those exercising their fundamental rights, Oxfam said in response to the first ever EU-Arab League summit that ended today."Arab and EU leaders should have agreed on ways to improve the lives of millions of people in both regions, but they have failed to go beyond empty words when addressing important issues like development, prosperity and economic cooperation", said Oxfam's Middle East and North Africa…
