Oxfam, together with civil society organizations, welcomes the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) announcement that it will not resume its investments in K-12 private schools, following the release of an independent evaluation by the World Bank Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) on the IFC’s investments in this area.

Public aid money should not be used to fund corporate-backed private school chains that fuel inequality. Other donor agencies and governments now need to follow suit, said Oxfam today in response to the US House Financial Services Committee’s (HFSC) announcement that the World Bank and its private sector arm have approved a package of reforms.

In the Central African Republic (CAR), a woman is a victim of sexual and gender-based violence almost every hour. For most women overcoming the trauma and moving on is a challenge. Oxfam is supporting them through literacy classes to help them read, write and empower them.
