The Israeli forces’ assault on Gaza has escalated to a horrifying level of atrocity. Northern Gaza is being wiped off the map. Under the guise of “evacuation,” Israeli forces have ordered the forced displacement of an estimated 400,000 Palestinians trapped in northern Gaza, including Gaza City. This is not an evacuation—this is forced displacement under gunfire.

The Lebanese authorities, communities and humanitarian agencies are struggling to shelter and provide the necessities of life to over one million people fleeing Israel’s airstrikes and invasion to the south, Oxfam said today. 

Oxfam is responding to the escalating crisis in Lebanon, providing essential support to the hundreds of thousands of people who have been forced to flee as Israeli airstrikes bombard their homes and communities. 

One month since the massive blast in Beirut, tens of thousands of vulnerable people are unable to rebuild their homes, with a single front door costing two months’ worth of a minimum-wage salary, warned Oxfam today. 

The violations and atrocities that underpinned Israel’s genocide in Gaza are again on full display in Lebanon as Israeli forces roll out the same military playbook across the country during the latest escalation.

From mass forced displacement to the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as the redrawing of buffer zones and borders, the impunity that Israel was allowed in Gaza has emboldened it to carry out the same tactics as it attacks Lebanon. Showing that it can do what it wants, wherever it wants, without repercussions as it expands its violations in the region.

In Lebanon, cash-plus approaches have taken multiple forms, including combinations of cash assistance with vocational training, work-based learning, and enterprise support, as well as, in some cases, referrals to complementary services.

Oxfam and partners are responding to the immediate needs of people who have been forcibly displaced by Israel’s bombardment and ground invasion of Lebanon.

Lebanon is home to diverse communities and individuals with a variety of identities, interests, needs and experiences. For the past few years, the country has been facing a series of crises, with large and unique impacts on these different groups. While access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and related information and services, was already challenging prior to these crises, these issues are now considered even less of a priority.

This report presents the findings of a two-phase study on working conditions in municipal solid waste (MSW) management in Lebanon, with a focus on the areas of Hasbaya, Chebaa, and Rachaya El Foukhar in South-Lebanon.
