Collective Power: Women Transforming Livelihoods through Akoub

This case study explores how women-led collective action can transform a traditional agricultural practice into a more structured, sustainable and market-oriented livelihood. In Qalqilya, Oxfam in OPT, in partnership with the Rural Women’s Development Society (RWDS), supported 17 women from five rural communities to cultivate Akoub close to their homes, develop their production and marketing skills, and create safer income-generating opportunities. Their experience demonstrates how collective power can strengthen women’s economic leadership, build household and community resilience, and protect a culturally significant native plant.
